Pre & Post Treatment Care for Electrolysis
Before Electrolysis Treatment
- Once electrolysis treatments have begun all other methods of temporary hair removal on the area should be discontinued (tweezing, threading and waxing). Only shaving and trimming should be done on the treated area. Avoid shaving five to seven days before a treatment. Hair must be long enough to grasp with a tweezer.
- Exfoliate the area the day before.
- Hydrated skin can help the treatment be more effective. Drinks an ample amount of water in the week prior to appointment.
- Decrease caffeine intake day prior to and the day of treatment. Caffeine can decrease your body’s natural pain tolerance.
- No deodorants, creams or body lotions should be used on the areas the day of.
- Remove excess makeup from treatment area prior to appointment
- If needed; apply topical numbing cream to area. See electrologist for details.
- Please reschedule appointment if you have a cold, stomach bug or are otherwise sick. Reschedule if cold sore is present and having facial work.
After Electrolysis Treatment
- After the treatment your skin follicles will be open and the skin sensitive with the potential for bacteria to enter.
- Avoid exposure to sun, heat or friction to the area for 48 hours.
- Avoid touching treated area for 48 hours.
- Avoid creams, lotions, deodorant and makeup that may clog pores for 48 hours.
- Only medicated makeup provided by your electrologist should be applied to treatment area if necessary. Please inquire about purchasing medicated makeup.
- Antibiotic ointment acts as a barrier and can help in the healing process.
- Do not pick off any scabs that may appear. This is a natural healing process and they will fall off when the healing process is completed.
- If pustules appear apply a compress using of 1 tbs. Epsom Salt to 1 qt. warm water. Use a clean face cloth to apply up to twice a day. Apply antibiotic ointment.
- If treated underarms, do not use deodorant for 48 hours. Use Sea Breeze or Witch Hazel instead.
